Breaking: Spring held Hostage

Hello friends!

Someplace, somewhere, it’s spring. Not here in southern Finland! Oh, no! I foresee this mutant seasonal phenomenon will eventually be called, SPRIMMER. Usually by now, winter snows have all melted, and we’ve got breezy cool-to-bitingly cold days & nights. The extra daylight time kicking in each day, doing wonders to heat up the soil and cause all manner of living things to start growing. Currently, the 50 cm of snow we *still* had laying about is getting a fresh 10-20 cm powder top-up. We’re going backwards instead of forwards!

So much for ‘getting out into the garden’! While we did get a tasty teaser of warm weather just a week or so ago when it was nearly 10c – we are now back to typical winter temperatures. There’s a lot more of this rain/snow in the forecast for the remainder of today and through the week. I’d be fine with it all (no, I wouldn’t) if I wasn’t so darned ready EAGER to get outside, so I could get my spring and summer chores done and begin other plans.

I took a look at the photos of years past to get things into perspective. Yep, I was right! Spring is being held hostage! Just look at the proof!

I’m beginning to doubt wonder whether things will snap back quickly into season, or if this is the big red flag that the garden year might just be in the crapper. Time tells all things. Patience is a virtue. Mother Nature is a bitch *nice old lady* with other plans.

Here’s hoping you are well and that your corner of the world is out of harms way, weather-wise and in all other manner of ways.

Peace friends. Peace and love.

  1. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Weather in the northern US is similarly “stuck” in a wintry pattern. I’m glad I don’t live there anymore, but I have a 3-week trip up north that I thought would be somewhat pleasant by April. Not going to happen; I’m headed into chilly rain and even some snow. Ugh. Hang in there!

  3. That last picture makes me shiver! We are in the low teens these days and the sun is shining. We didn’t get a lot of snow in southern Ontario except for a few nasty storms. But within a few days the snow was gone and while the winter has been cold, -15c to -20c, it is now over. Spring is here! I hope you get a break in your weather soon. It would be a shame to have your garden delayed. I so look forward to it.

  4. When will you open garden this year? I missed last year🙂

  5. According to AvoimetPuutarha.com the Finnish national open garden day is 07.08.22. See you then!
