Hello friends!

We’re on the cusp of Juhannus/Midsummer which should be a day of nice celebrations throughout Finland as we’ll be rain-free in our area, like so many days this month of June. Five millimeters of rain recently, dissipated without great benefit, and that’s the story of things here at Vanha Talo Suomi so far this gardening season.

A relaxing time wandering amid a few gardens in Loviisa was a good day for us as well as all those who participated in last Sunday’s Avoimet Puutarha/ Finland’s national Open Garden Day event. We saw interesting displays, as well as noticed a few perennials worth a much closer look. Once we returned home and conducted some research, Pekka said let’s go to Turku on Tuesday and visit the Viherlassia and Flör nurseries to buy some of these new perennials since they were in stock there. Yippeee!

That’s how our Tuesday afternoon played out. Flör is a wonderful place that has nearly everything and more, any gardener would be proud to have in their garden. We’ve purchased several items from them in the past, and have been really happy with the results.

Added to the What’s Growing at Vanha Talo Suomi in the perennial category are the following;

  • Thalictrum
  • Dictamnus
  • Astrantia
  • Gillenia trifoliata

Looking forward to these little guys getting happy in their new places. When mature, they will fulfill a lot of expectations for an area that had been looking rather drab.

If you’d like, you can join me for a virtual tour of the garden, which I began filming June 19, 2024, and completed today. There are three video parts in all, which are now added to the YouTube page we started quite a while back.

YouTube: Vanha Talo Suomi

To start you off, here’s Part I of the tour – first time doing this sort of thing, so there are a few things a more seasoned YouTuber would know not to do… I’m learning!!!

More than a few people have asked about seeing a video, so I hope they enjoy this first efffort! It’s fun and interesting once you get the uploading and editing things sorted. Thanks for your patience -both having to wait so long for a video, and the output thus far! :=)

Wishing everyone a wonderful Juhannus / Midsummer Eve and Day!!

Until next time ❤
