Hello friends!
Greetings from the garden! The local newspaper Länsi-Uusimaa sent a reporter to the garden to get some photos and showcase the garden. We happily obliged. The story was published in Tuesday’s edition of the newspaper on page 5.

What a wonderful story and nice photos for the locals! While we’d had some rain in time for his visit and thankfully everything was looking quite lush, it’s been rain-free ever since. The weather forecast calls for buckets of rain tomorrow, but I’ve heard that song before!
With temperatures still quite warm, everything that grows & buzzes has kept up pretty well to the rhythm of life in an August garden. Some of the flowering perennials are starting to look a bit frayed around the edges, and you can see the tell-tale signs that some of them are winding down for the summer. The apples which I thought would be a low yield have me stunned with heavily laden branches. The bees are still hard at work gathering pollen and nectar snacks.
I filmed a short video of how everything is looking. Have a quick watch and see for yourself.
An enjoyable time was had yesterday afternoon and evening with a group from the Finnish Dendrological Society, which sponsored a guided walking tour of a small arboretum located near the central city park of Helsinki, called Niskalan. Three hours went by in a flash. A good turn-out from young and old alike made for a pleasant outing to a place neither of us had ever visited before.
The grass has been cut in anticipation of any rainfall that may pass by. Other than that, it’s been a slow and steady pace of garden tasks and the occasional tidy-up here and there.
Hopefully, summer weather stays with us through the entire month. While the daylight hours slowly tick off the clock in decline, there is still much going on. We’re planning to visit the Mustila Arboretum in Elimäki, which will host their yearly seedling day on the 24th of August. At this event, once again plant vendors will be on hand to sell plants and trees along with the array of items Mustila will also have available for purchase. It’s always a nice time, and I’m looking forward to going there.
Happy late summer greetings to you! Thanks for stopping by!
Until next time ❤
that was a lovely video walk. Butterflies like it too. All the best.

How thrilling about the news article! I wish I could read Finnish. I bet many readers enjoyed seeing and reading about your incredible garden. I can wait to watch your video. Will have to do tomorrow as I’m on a tight schedule today. Congrats on the article and the abundant apple harvest!! -lisa

Thank you. It has been wonderful getting such heady recognition from our local area. It’s the second time being in the newspaper, but more than that, very satisfying others find our garden such a pleasing and beautiful endeavor.
We’ll be giving a tour by request to the Lohja regional gardening club this Friday. But the next major public showing will be the 10th anniversary of the garden in 2026. How time flies!
Thanks again Lisa. Have a great week.
